Robot welding

As indicated by the name, robot welding is welding performed by means of a robot. The robot is a specialized robot with greater accuracy of the movements than for example handling robots, and it always has at least 4 axes. Robots are always incorporated into the welding machine itself to form one unit. This means that the robot also controls the welding machine during the welding process.

Robot welding is extremely flexible. In principle, welding robots can weld workpieces just as complicated as a human being, and, in addition, they can utilise welding methods (laser and plasma) which cannot be used by human beings. The productivity of welding robots is typically 3 to 7 times higher than comparable manual welding, and therefore robot welding entails considerable benefits as to quality and economy where this is optimal seen in relation to size of series, among other things.

GBI (Gl. Bedsted industri A/S) uses 8-axis welding robot with 2 power sources attached. The robot can thus perform the following types of welding: TIG, MIG/MAG and plasma, and cover all types of materials incl. aluminium. The robot is equipped with revolving table and can weld workpieces in sizes up 600x500x1300 in one workflow from all sides by means of controlled swivel heads.
