Plate cutting is the oldest method of shaping sheet materials. Plate cutting is performed by moving 2 heat-treated steel knives against each other, and the material is simply cut through, and in principle in the same way as paper.
Plate cutting is the fastest and most economical method for production of simply shaped workpieces, typically square, on the basis of a raw sheet. Plate cutting also entails the advantage of being a cold-work method just like turret punching. For this reason it is not necessary with subsequent treatment of surfaces such as before welding.
GBI (Gl. Bedsted industri A/S) offers cutting of lengths up to 3 m and thicknesses up to 8 mm as for steel and with accuracy in conformity with the DS/ISO 2768-F standard.
